Welcome Spring!!

via australian vogue
I almost forgot to say welcome to spring, I hope to have you in my step when we return.  Enjoy your spring days, there is nothing quite like them. My spring image is children, park, bikes, blanket, coffee, paper and nothing planned for the whole day, mmm spring bring on the smiles. xx

Time to Regroup

So it is time for us to leave.  I had hoped to contribute so much more over the last month however we have had a few sad times lately and only just coming out the other side.  We are so looking forward to our holiday - my youngest is very much looking forward to going 'norkelling' in Candidasa though my eldest very disappointed we were only going two weeks not the four he had told his entire prep class. I thought I would add a few tantalising photos of where we will be staying.  I am sure we will return refreshed and invigorated - if you can't find some peace in Bali there is little hope.
The pool at our villa in Candidasa, East Bali - all ours and yes that is the beach you see!
Ma Ma's bed, I'm sure she will be happy with this view
Our Candidasa villa at night
Next we arrive in Ubud and this is the view from bath one, I don't think we need to worry about peeping toms
Discussions will have to had on who is claiming this bedroom
The pool area at the Ubud villa not for the faint hearted.

What Gives You Butterflies?

via Jewelera on Etsy

This is just so gorgeous and whimsical. It would be beautiful with anything from a plain t shirt to a lacy vintage dress. It sends me all aflutter. x

Coffee, Tea, Me?

Just when I was already to give up coffee for a month, comes along this little  number from .  It is a real life 'eco-re-useable ceramic coffee/tea cup' and just too pretty in ming blue. Maybe if I allow for shipping it will arrive just in time for my caffiene jolt in 4 weeks. Here's hoping.

This is a terrible photo of a a gorgeous secret - sorry Katrina- these are the last days of, a fabulous little shop in Greece currently closing down as Morelle is moving to Australia. Very sad for two reasons 1. I have only just been let in on the secret 2. I have only purchased one bag to date. However great news for those wanting a steal as there are a few bags left.  The image does not do them justice, they are handmade and the colours are gorgeous. Try to contain yourselves - they arrive packaged with extra care.

Swings and Roundabouts..

Very Excited

Very excited - we have just booked our next holiday in Bali. We are staying at the fully staffed Villa Gita in Candidasa and Villa Kalisha in Ubud. We haven't been to Ubud since our honeymoon 13 years ago so it will be interesting to see if it has changed too much, I hope not.   Both areas are well away from touristy areas and  look fabulous - this is our view over the beach at Candidasa, for some reason I couldn't upload the one for . We missed out on Kalisha sister - maybe next time.  I have a little secret which means I will be really looking forward to this chill out time in September.
If you love Bali too you should have a look at a lovely blog a friend told me about - thanks Katrina - called

Gone Missing

via flickr

Yep I was gone, however I am back now. I have always been a little loose on consistency and sometimes it is too easy to let life take over. No matter how often I disappear I'm sure to be back, hopefully with some worthwhile 'simple things to love' to share.

Friday Faves......

It came out a while ago, but the favourite dvd in our house is Ponyo. The graphics and music are so wonderful and the story is completely charming.
A quote from director Hayao Miyazaki:

“A little boy and a little girl, love and responsibility,

the ocean and life—these things, and that which is most elemental to them,

are depicted in the most basic way in ‘PONYO.’”

Our lovely lady, Joan, at our local dvd shop also has a love of Hayao's work and this weekend we have two dvds as a treat.
'Laputa: Castle in the Sky (1986) recounts the adventure of two orphans seeking a magical castle-island that floats in the sky; My Neighbor Totoro (Tonari no Totoro, 1988) tells of the adventure of two girls and their interaction with forest spirits' - Wikipedia
We are heading to the beach again today for a few days so we had a sneak peak of Laputa last night and my eldest boy declared it the best ever though I think my younger one will always harbour a deep love for Ponyo. It may sound like a strange thing to say however you could do a lot worse parenting than making the time to sit and watch these lovely movies with your children.  I hope you can discover the joy of Hayao too.

Friday Faves ...

Perpetual Calender by erinzam on etsy

What a lovely idea and great way to get the kids learning the months of the year. You fill in the back of the tags with the appropriate dates so it is not year specific, a wonderful gift idea. Have a great weekend.xx

Etsy Find

Love this simple ink  and watercolour - A Bit of Paris from Artquirk on - this is  a postcard reproduction however the originals are also available. I love the imperfections and movement you get from this medium, I could sit and stare for hours - though I would really rather be sitting at one of those tiny table under the canopy along the Seine.

Tuesday Bookclub

via Howstuffworks on ‘How to create a Home Library’

Off to bookclub tonight and very keen to hear what everyone thought of Little White Slips by Karen Hitchcock. Short stories, high anxiety levels, empathetic (?) humour. Interesting reading, looking forward to our next book.

Friday Faves ...

left - image via right - can't find source of image however would love it if someone knows
I'd say nice chest but I'd be afraid you'd slap me - I love the way some people can assemble found items just so. I am far too clumsy, though the image on the right is sort of the feel I am trying to create in our guest room. I have found my grandmother's beautiful wedding gown and my mum and my aunts first communion and  christening dresses and would love to hang them on display. The children's dresses are all hand smocked by my grandmother so I would love to keep them where they will be appreciated. I will post them when I finally get them here.

It's definitely autumn

image via flickr

The weather is actually almost seasonal, who would have thought. I think we are so used to really hot and then shots of really cold, we have possibly forgotton there are seasons such as spring and autumn - now if we just had the clear skies.

I love a museum

papilon journey by almond tree frames via

We spend a lot of time at the museum so when I saw this I immediately thought of The Butterfly Man of Kuranda at the Queensland Museum. Amazing exhibition the detail and patience involved in the completing the displays is overwhelming and the results are so very beautiful.

Ebay Away!

My two latest Ebay buys - a little wicker table for the deck and place for our "stones from the Mediterranian" between deckies from Rockett St George and a little blue side table to house goggles, watering cans and pride of place our bean plant proudly grown at prep. Piece by piece we find our way. x

Little Girls

I have two boys however I may just have to buy this dress anyway and hang it above my desk, too cute and reversible to boot.  If only my own dresses were so versatile, I would save a fortune!x
